Sleepy Hollow
Pearl, 9.30pm
Tim Burton's stylish, creepy re-telling of the classic Washington Irving story stars Johnny Depp as Inspector Ichabod Crane, a squeamish 18th-century New York City investigator. Crane's outspoken views on scientific progress bring him into disfavour with his superiors and he is dispatched to a small rural village to investigate three mysterious decapitations. The superstitious townsfolk believe the deaths to be the work of the headless ghost of a murdered Hessian soldier returned from his grave looking for vengeance. Crane, believing in logic, begins his investigations, only to find his faith shattered when he encounters the horseman. A gripping and visually stunning tale of sense versus myth. Also starring Christina Ricci (above), Christopher Lee, Christopher Walken, Miranda Richardson, Michael Gough and Michael Gambon. (1999)
