Sony fans will be happy to know that the Cybershot DSC-P10 and DSC-P8 have finally hit Hong Kong shelves. The P10 is a 5.2-megapixel model in a growing segment of 5-megapixel ultra-compact digital cameras that also includes the Canon PowerShot S50 and Olympus D-50.

The size of the P series has made it one of the best-selling digital cameras, even though it is about equivalent to the Canon and Olympus models in terms of image quality.

Both the 172-gram P10 and the 3.2-megapixel P8 pack a bundle of advanced features into a compact package.

Both come with a built-in 3x optical zoom and Sony's Smart Zoom technology, which further boosts the zooming capacity of the P10 to 12x and the P8 to 9.6x.

While typical digital zooms often degrade the quality of the image, Sony's Smart Zoom automatically compensates to offer the best possible image resolution.

Sony has taken extra steps to ensure maximum usability of both models, with continuous autofocus, predefined saturation and contrast settings, and no less than seven preset shooting modes.

The preset modes include a new fireworks mode for extended exposures, a high-speed shutter mode, a snow mode and optimum shooting configurations for beach scenes, shots in dim conditions and landscapes.
