Worker critical after tiles Fall on his head
A 46-year-old worker was fighting for his life in hospital last night after two boxes of tiles fell from a building in To Kwa Wan and hit him on the head. The accident happened at about 11.30am as a bundle of boxes was being lifted to a fifth-floor working platform in Kau Pui Lung Road. Police said one of the ropes gave way and two boxes fell from the bundle.
15 women in poisoning scare at elderly home
Fifteen women aged from 77 to 96 fell ill from suspected food poisoning after having breakfast at a home for the elderly in Sha Tin. They were taken from the Pai Tau Street centre to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital and North District Hospital for treatment. Food and Environmental Hygiene Department inspectors collected food samples from the home, a police spokesman said.
mother commits suicide 8 days after giving birth
A 34-year-old mother apparently suffering post-natal depression leapt to her death from her Ma On Shan home eight days after giving birth. The woman jumped out of a window of her 12th-floor flat in Kam Ying Road at about 8.30am. In a separate case, a 41-year-old woman allegedly threw herself out of a window from her 22nd-floor flat of Union Plaza in Wo Muk Road at about 9.30am.
