HKU union issues demand for an end to war in Iraq

The University of Hong Kong Student Union has demanded an immediate halt to the US invasion of Iraq and compensation from the US and Britain for what it says are the atrocities caused to the Iraqi people. A statement issued by the union said the reasons for waging the war were weak. Lingnan University students held a candle-lit vigil this week to campaign for peace.

Security fears see graduations postponed

The University of Queensland has postponed graduation celebrations scheduled for this week for Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong, due to safety and security concerns over the war in Iraq. University secretary and registrar Douglas Porter said graduates would be contacted as soon as new dates were decided.

HK universities allocate scholarship funds

City University has awarded scholarships worth $4.4 million to 400 degree and sub-degree students. The university has received donations of more than $7 million for scholarships. Meanwhile, Baptist University has received $11.9 million in scholarship and bursary donations, a seven per cent increase on last year.
