THE City Polytechnic published the results of applications for full-time degree programmes for the non-JUPAS (Joint University and Polytechnic Admissions System) students on July 31.
I was lucky enough to be accepted and received notification that afternoon.
However, the letter stated I must register at a specified time on August 5 and bring the school fee of HK$8,950.
I was doing part-time work to get enough money to pay the fee, but I needed time and because of my job, could not attend at the time specified.
At such short notice, the company I worked for could not get a replacement for me and I could not raise the $8,950 in only five days. I therefore phoned the polytechnic's inquiry hotline and asked if anyone there could help me solve the problem.
Unfortunately, I was told that I could neither defer my registration, nor my payment of the school fee.
