Heightened concerns about productivity will persuade more Asian companies to implement software and services that monitor staff use of the Internet, industry experts say.
'There is growing awareness of employee Internet management [EIM] use in this region,' Websense president Curt Staker said.
'It is simply good business practice to know what employees are doing with their Internet privileges.'
He said the effective management of employees' Internet use yielded measurable improvements in productivity and savings in network bandwidth and storage costs.
Also, the legal liabilities of applications such as Internet file-sharing programs could be mitigated.
'Despite the tough economy, we are seeing more deployments in Asia because companies here want to stay competitive even as they cut costs,' he said.
