Both good and bad

I READ with concern the complaints made in the South China Morning Post, about rude taxi-drivers (for example, in these columns on August 18).

To be fair, there are good taxi drivers and there are bad ones.

For example, on a recent trip from the airport, I left my passport and some valuables in the taxi, and the driver chased after me to return my belongings.

The point I am trying to make is that, I think we have to be fair, and we must not introduce any measures that punish both the good taxi drivers and the bad ones.

My own feeling, as a frequent taxi user, is that taxi fares are extremely cheap in Hong Kong.

I would not mind paying more, if this gives the driver an incentive to provide a more courteous service.
