Consumer electronics giant Sony has added some Internet savvy to its tried-and-tested stereo component systems.

Its new Net MD Micro HiFi System (CMT-M333NT) differs from your typical boom box in that it runs a pair of complementary Universal Serial Bus-standard cable and music management software programs.

With SonicStage version 1.5 and Mcrew version 2.1, users of the new Sony stereo can connect the device to their broadband Internet-linked personal computers for recording and editing music.
