A foreign domestic helper was arrested yesterday after she was captured on a hidden video camera allegedly abusing a 20-month-old boy in a Tung Chung apartment.

The arrest was made after the maid's employer, 38, checked the camera footage and discovered the alleged child abuse. She made a report to police at about 10am.

The camera was installed on Sunday on the maid's day off, and switched on when the couple went to work on Monday, police said.

A police source said a tiny lens connected to the camera was hidden in the living room of the family flat in Shun Tung Road.

'Part of the footage allegedly showed the toddler being slapped twice by the helper after he refused to eat congee at lunchtime,' the source said.

The couple reportedly told officers that they started the video surveillance after they thought their only son seemed afraid of the maid.
