A CATHAY Pacific Airways maintenance worker has been suspended for allegedly stealing a bottle of water and two newspapers from a plane at Kai Tak airport. The incident, which took place last week, comes as sacked Cathay flight attendant Courtney Chong considers making a second appeal to management. She was fired after a routine search at Singapore's Changi Airport found a packet of macadamia nuts, a bottle of water and an in-flight magazine in her bag. She claims she was framed. The airline has denied that the man was treated any differently from Ms Chong, who was a leading member of the Lunar New Year cabin crew strike and former vice-chairman of Cathay's Flight Attendants Union. ''It is exactly the same procedure,'' a spokesman said last night. ''This person is suspended and he will have the opportunity to present his case in the same way as Courtney Chong. He will be interviewed further and there will be a full investigation. ''This kind of business happens three or four times a year and the same procedure is followed each time.''
