Hospital Authority Chief Executive William Ho Shiu-wei (left) was yesterday discharged from hospital after 22 days of treatment for Sars.

Dr Ho, 44, will need to recuperate at home for another week, said acting chief executive Ko Wing-man. Dr Ho was admitted to Queen Mary Hospital on March 23 after falling ill with a fever earlier that day.

He speculated that he caught Sars on his visits to infected hospitals. 'I always strictly followed the infection-control measures, [but] infection-control measures may not be 100 per cent foolproof,' he said.

Another Hospital Authority official, Fung Hong, the chief executive of the Prince of Wales Hospital - site of one of the worst outbreaks of the virus - was admitted for treatment on March 27 for suspected atypical pneumonia.

The 45-year-old was first cleared of Sars and discharged before being re-admitted to hospital and confirmed to be suffering from the disease on April 6.
