I notice that the streets in Hong Kong are much cleaner than before the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars), especially in seriously affected areas such as Ngau Tau Kok.
There is more frequent sweeping and jet-washing of the streets by sanitation workers.
I really hope that our government will continue its effort to keep Hong Kong a clean and pleasant place and is not simply doing some perfunctory work because of the crisis.
Like most people, I live in a small apartment with my family in this cramped city and I know very well the grubbiness of our living environment.
Our government has definitely not done enough to keep the city clean.
During summer, air-conditioners drip on to the streets. This is especially serious in districts with more old buildings. There are regulations about dripping air-conditioners but their enforcement undoubtedly needs to be reinforced.
Even in hard times like now, when we are under the threat of a killer epidemic, you can still see people spitting and littering.
