AT&T this year took part for the first time in the Hewitt Associates study of best employers, but it has long developed a strategy for attracting and keeping quality staff.

'We are thrilled to be recognised as one of the top 10 best employers in Hong Kong,' says Francis Kwong, Regional Human Resources Director for AT&T Asia Pacific.

'As a company providing communications services our employees are the lifeblood of our business, so we endeavour to take a holistic approach to our employment practices.'

Financial rewards should not be the only or even the main motivator when it comes to attracting and retaining the best employees, Mr Kwong says.

'The long-term career interest of AT&T staff is also an important consideration and is integral to the company's succession planning process. Staff are developed for key positions that match their career aspirations as well as serving the needs of the business.'

A&T has a clearly defined code of conduct for all employees based on five core values: respect for individuals; dedication to helping customers; integrity; innovation; and teamwork. All staff have to demonstrate to their managers their understanding of and commitment to these values.
