Dirty movies offered in cleanup campaign

Dirty movies are being offered to residents by one property management company as it strives to keep its housing estates spanking clean.

In an effort to stop Sars spreading through sewerage systems, Hong Yip Service Company, a subsidiary of Sun Hung Kai Properties, is using video cameras to peek inside the pipes that carry waste from the toilets in every flat.

A closed-circuit television unit allows the company to record the whole process, and residents are then offered a copy of the video.

The purpose of the process is to locate cracks and blockages in pipes and to aid the cleanup.

'Preventing the spread of atypical pneumonia is our top priority,' said Alkin Kwong Ching-wai, director and general manager of Hong Yip. 'We will do our very best.'

The whole procedure costs tenants about $100 per flat. The company has already cleaned two blocks of Prima Villa in Sha Tin because of its proximity to Prince of Wales Hospital, where many patients with Sars are being treated.
