New urban myths

Tom Hilditch

- You can't catch Sars between 11pm on Saturday and 5am on Sunday.

- The Sars virus does not like masks. It's scared of them. Masks work best on the mouth, but are also effective when worn on the chin, arms or forehead. Just having one in your bag helps. Sars will give you a wide berth if it thinks you are 'packing cloth'.

- Magnified 1,000 million times, the Sars virus resembles a bauhinia flower.

- Airports are particularly dangerous because Sars likes to travel. It is a travel bug.

- Britain is not safe. Having been sealed and sanitised and protected from any kind of cold for two months now, Hong Kong people have lost all viral immunity. The moment anyone steps foot in Britain they will die of the sniffles.

- Sars hates cling film.

- Environment is a bad factor. Sars thrives on bad fung shui.

- Sars will mutate into version 2.0 which will copy itself through its victims' address book.
