HKSA to introduce excellence awards

SYSTEMS Union has teamed with the Hong Kong Society of Accountants (HKSA) to organise the 1993 Accountant of the Year Award programme to encourage excellence in the accounting profession.

It will be the first award scheme of its kind for the territory.

HKSA executive director Louis Wong said: ''This is our 20th anniversary so it is an opportune time for the initiation of the award.

''It signifies the recognition of the accountants' contribution to the community and we expect the programme to be a successful one.'' Any accountant who has been a resident of Hong Kong for seven years or more and is a member of the HKSA is eligible for nomination for the award.

All nominations will be screened by a panel comprising representatives of Coopers & Lybrand, KPMG Peat Marwick and Price Waterhouse.

Short-listed candidates will be required to attend an interview before a panel of judges before the winner is named on October 28.

The deadline for submission of nominations is September 15.

Nomination forms are available from the offices of MDL-Edelman in Wan Chai.
