Diamond gang jailed on the mainland
Six gang members who stole $2.4 million worth of diamonds from two salesmen in Causeway Bay last July have been jailed for between 10 years and life by a mainland court.
The four Hong Kong residents and two mainlanders were arrested in Maoming City, Shenzhen and Shanghai in September by Public Security Bureau officers who obtained information from their counterparts in Hong Kong.
About $700,000 worth of the diamonds have been recovered.
The six were sentenced by the Maoming Intermediate People's Court on April 18, according to Xinhua.
The ringleader, Hong Kong resident Tung Man-chi, was jailed for life. Yeung Ping, also from Hong Kong, was jailed for 15 years. The other four were sentenced to between 10 and 13 years.
The robbery happened on July 17 when two salesmen from the Israeli-owned jeweller EMA Asia Ltd, which has its headquarters in Central, were jumped on by two robbers from behind in Percival Street.
