SATURDAY
Soccer: At last! Happy Valley cast off their reputation as Hong Kong's nearly men, capturing the league title by a single point thanks to a 2-2 draw with closest rivals Sun Hei. And they waste no time celebrating, grabbing the trophy for a lap of honour before the dignitaries can present it. 'It's like a burden off the shoulders of the players,' says Keith Gumbs, scorer of both Valley goals.
Racing: Oops (1)! A positive drug test sees South Africa's Eventuail scratched on the eve of the Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Sha Tin. Vets say an earlier treatment with a corticosteroid - which the Jockey Club has been informed of - is unlikely to leave the horse's system in time. With Sars ruling out horses from Dubai or Europe, the QE II Cup is down to two overseas entrants, Japan's Eishin Preston and Germany's Paolini.
Soccer: Oops (2)! Arsenal take their eye off the ball in the Premiership title race. They throw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Bolton and boss Arsene Wenger stands on the touchline with a face like thunder. 'It was a lack of concentration,' he fumes. Arsenal are now relying on leaders Manchester United slipping up.
SUNDAY
Racing: Japanese raider Eishin Preston crushes the opposition in the QE II Cup - his third win in four visits to Hong Kong - and trainer Shuji Kitahashi has grand plans for the six-year-old. The QE II Cup is the first round of the 2003 World Racing Series and Kitahashi reveals: 'We will be pursuing other international races in the World Series. We would like our horse to become the world champion.' Meanwhile, an inquiry into Eventuail's positive test ends without penalty for the horse's connections.
