IF you have to be nabbed by the cops, it's best trying to arrange it on the Sabbath - and preferably outside a church.
That's the advice given to us by Nicola Thomas who was driving her domestic helper to morning mass at St Joseph's Church in Garden Road.
On arriving at the church, she was suddenly pounced on by a team of Central's finest who streamed out of a closely-following van, and informed her that in her haste to get to the church on time she had violated one or two traffic regulations along the way.
As Nicola was weighing up her options (i.e. play tough or break into tears) and the officers were demanding her licence and meting out admonition, a breathless, plain-clothed detective arrived on the scene.
He ordered the assembled constabulary to immediately hotfoot it with him around the corner, where an even more serious crime had just been committed.
Handing her back her licence with a curt ''you are very lucky'', the cops were away.
