Recently the Young Men's Christian Association of Hong Kong (YMCA) organised the 'I Love My School' fashion-design competition with the theme: your ideal school life.

More than 200 sketches were received, 19 were made into garments and paraded at the final competition.

Ho Ho-tak, a 21-year-old student at the Polytechnic University, snapped up the championship with Mind the Gap, designed with the message that we should bring everyone closer together.

First runner-up was Beauty is Being Simple and Natural, sketched by Irene Chan Choi-lin, 21, also from PolyU. She was inspired by a former teacher's comment on the essence of school uniforms.

A playful tube-top dress may shock some teachers, but Refresh won Yiu Chi-tuen, Kwong Yuen-ting and Choi Lai-wan the second runner-up spot. The trio hail from Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Sha Tin).

The competition is part of the YMCA Youth Creative Arts Project. Funded by Hong Kong Arts Development Council, it helps youngsters explore art forms such as photography, drama, mural painting and African drumming under the theme of Dream and Creativity.
