Enigmatic Good Win knocked out more than the punting public when he gave a rodeo display in the pre-race parade then turned the form book on its ear to win the fifth event last night.
Prior to racing, Good Win lashed out in the parade ring and caught John Moore's assistant, Wong Chan-sing, with a glancing kick to the left side of his head. Bleeding from a wound, Wong was whisked off to hospital but reports late last night suggested he had not suffered serious injury in the mishap.
'He's always a bit cranky before a race until the jockey gets on him,' said trainer David Hayes. 'Then he usually settles down and gets on with it.'
And Good Win (Dwayne Dunn) then proceeded to blow out punters as he took advantage of a track favouring frontrunners in a performance in stark contrast to failure on all-weather track last start.
'There were a few reasons why he failed last start, and he was a bit stiff behind after the race,' Hayes said. 'We also had the chiropractor to him since, but I think it was as much mental as anything else - last time he had to work to go forward and gave up. Tonight he got the front easily and he thought he was having a track gallop.'
