Nap Attack
World, 9pm
Imagine being afraid to laugh for fear of falling to the ground, regularly waking at night, paralysed by terrifying night-time hallucinations or the constant feeling of not having slept for days. These are the realities of living with narcolepsy. This moving, revealing and often funny programme tells the day-to-day stories of narcolepsy sufferers and examines the full impact of one of the most under-diagnosed conditions in the UK. It is thought that 20,000 people have the condition, but only 2,500 are being treated. There is no cure and its effect on people's lives is devastating.
Fourteen-year-old Jacqueline Liddel (above) can't laugh without falling over. She has the worst case of narcolepsy that doctors have seen. Her dream is to dance professionally but it's too early to say whether she has the stamina to survive ballet school because of her condition. Nap Attack follows her through her end-of-year dance exams to see if she stands a chance.
