Six performing arts groups are offering their services over the next year to help promote drama, dance and multi-media arts in primary and secondary schools.
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) this week invited schools to apply for the on-going Schools Arts Animateur Scheme.
Hong Kong Ballet will work with primary and secondary schools to promote multi-media arts within the mainstream curriculum.
The International Association of Theatre Critics (Hong Kong), which produces musicals, and the Prospects Theatre Company also intend to explore ways of integrating arts in the curriculum. Other groups participating include City Contemporary Dance Company, Zuni Icosahedron and the Exploration Theatre.
Wong Kim-wah, a teacher at Christian Alliance SW Chan Memorial College, which has created a drama course for 27 Form Four students, said the involvement of professional artists was important.
'It would be difficult for us to create the course without them as we do not have the resources nor the experience in drama,' he said.
Florence Lui Pui-yu, head of education and outreach for Hong Kong Ballet, said: 'Arts can make learning more fun, and give students various ways of expressing their feelings. It can also facilitate life-wide learning if it is incorporated into the curriculum. Education should not just revolve around what is written in texts.'
