A domestic helper was being questioned by police last night after a hidden video camera filmed her allegedly abusing her employer's 11-month-old daughter - the second such case reported in recent weeks.

The 32-year-old businessman secretly installed needle-sized lenses connected to the camera in the girl's bedroom and the living room of his two-storey house in Fairview Park, Yuen Long, to spy on his Filipino maid because he suspected his daughter was being mistreated.

Detectives from Yuen Long police station were reportedly told that the undercover video surveillance started after the man noticed his daughter was crying a lot and refusing to eat.

The businessman called police after he checked the video footage yesterday and saw the 40-year-old helper allegedly slapping the baby girl on the face and hitting her on the head.

A police spokeswoman said the infant had no apparent injuries but was taken to Tuen Mun Hospital, where she was admitted for observation.

She said police were treating the case as a suspected incident of cruelty to a child and the Filipino helper was arrested for alleged abuse.

The maid, who has been with the family for about three months, was held for questioning in Yuen Long police station yesterday afternoon.
