IN THE LINE OF DUTY: OTHERS WHO HAVE FALLEN FIGHTING SARS
Tse Yuen-man was the third medical worker in Hong Kong to die while caring for Sars patients.
The first death was on April 3, when private paediatric surgeon James Lau Tai-kwan, 56, died 12 days after being admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital in a critical condition. He is believed to have developed Sars symptoms on March 20 after being infected by one of his young patients. Lau, who also suffered from heart disease, was married and had a child who is a final-year medical student.
On April 26, male nurse Lau Wing-kai, 38, from Tuen Mun Hospital, died of Sars. The father of one had been nursing Sars patients in the hospital before he fell ill. A funeral with full honours was held for Lau last Wednesday when he given a permanent place in Gallant Garden - the official heroes' cemetery at Wo Hop Shek.
