TOURNAMENT favourites Ming Kei College and Pui Ching Middle School won all their pool matches in the opening round of the inaugural Inter-school Beach Volleyball Championships at the weekend. Under blazing sunshine at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology's permanent sand court in Sai Kung, eight girls teams opened the competition organised by the Hong Kong Schools Sport Federation. The two undefeated teams finished top of their respective pools and now advance to the semi-finals at the brand new sand court in Choi Hung Road Park, Wong Tai Sin on May 25. 'With the sun shining there was a distinct beach feeling, and with many supporters turning out it was an exciting atmosphere,' said co-organiser Cheng King-leung. 'Some of the girls were playing competitive beach volleyball for the first time and really got into it. They wanted to continue playing and can't wait for the next round.' The other two semi-finalists, which came second in pools A and B, are the Chinese Foundation Secondary School and William Booth Secondary School. The boys take court next weekend at the same venue.
