A foreign domestic helper was arrested yesterday after a computer Webcam filmed her allegedly beating a 21-month-old girl in Tseung Kwan O - the second such case in two days.

The Filipino maid was arrested at 1.30am after her boss, 35, checked the computer connected to a Webcam installed in the living room of the family's Beverley Garden apartment in Tong Ming Street. Part of the computer recording showed two alleged assaults on Monday and Tuesday.

'In the two incidents, the toddler was beaten on the thighs with a plastic toy - a 40cm hollow tube - when she refused to eat,' a police spokesman said.

The child had no apparent injuries but was taken to Tseung Kwan O Hospital for examination.

One investigator said the video surveillance started after the girl's parents suspected she might have been mistreated.

The maid, 29, who has been with the family for two years, told her boss last month she would leave if she could find a new job.

The spokesman said the helper was arrested for assault and released on $500 bail.

The incident is the second case in two days of alleged child abuse involving a maid being caught on video.

On Tuesday, another Filipino maid, 40, was arrested after she was filmed allegedly slapping an 11-month-old girl in Yuen Long.

In a separate case, a man, 30, was arrested after he allegedly slapped his 18-month-old daughter during a dispute with his wife over her custody in Choi Wah House, Choi Fai Estate, Wong Tai Sin, just before 1pm. Police said the couple had separated.

The man's three-year-old niece suffered injuries to her forehead when he kicked the security gate of the unit and two metal bars broke apart and hit the girl. Police said the two girls were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
