LA SALLE COLLEGE and Diocesan Boys School (DBS) have locked horns in many sports over the years but never before in beach volleyball. The Kowloon sporting powerhouses and 13 other boys teams take to the sand tomorrow in the first Inter-School Beach Volleyball Championships at the University of Science and Technology's court in Sai Kung. La Salle are this year's champions of athletics, table tennis and badminton while DBS ruled in the pool, in tennis, fencing and cross-country, and were also Jing Ying (all Hong Kong competition) football champions. La Salle and DBS shared the title honours in the Division One indoor volleyball championship earlier this year and now that deadlock is set to be challenged. The 15 teams have been divided into four groups, and will each play three matches. The teams top of the tables at the end of the day advance to the finals at Choi Hung Road Park, Wong Tai Sin on May 25. DBS are in Pool A, La Salle in Pool B and the two teams which finished joint second in the Division One indoor competition - Pui Ching Middle School and Wah Yan College - are seeded in Pool C and D respectively. Games begin at 9.30am and continue into the afternoon. Last weekend, the girls opening round saw favourites Ming Kei College and Pui Ching Middle School both storm through undefeated to the finals. Joining them are Chinese Foundation Secondary School and William Booth Secondary School.
