Sars or no Sars, Hong Kong people should be concerned about the damage to health resulting from Sick Building Syndrome and Building Related Illness, to which children are especially susceptible, and the quality of indoor air in general.
Oxyvital, established in 1999, specialises in indoor air quality control with an air purification system that incorporates bio-filtration, taking carbon dioxide and changing it to earth gases and nitrogen oxide.
'The system is 2,000 times better than other products claiming similar abilities,' says Ilse Massenbauer-Strafe, managing director.
Other air purifiers on the market, the majority of which use dust filters of some sort, filter out particulates down to one micron (or 10,000 angstroms).
An angstrom is a unit of measure equal to one hundred-millionth of a centimetre. A sheet of paper is approximately 1,000,000 angstroms. Oxyvital filters down to five angstroms.
By comparison, bacteria range from between 3,000 and 300,000 angstroms, and most viruses from 30 to 500 angstroms.
