Seminar on safety in ship yards

A SEMINAR to promote work safety the ship-building and ship-repairing industry will be held on Friday at 2.30 pm at the Hong Kong Labour Department's industrial safety training centre.

The seminar, which is organised by the factory inspectorate division, is aimed at helping employers and workers in the industry understand potential hazards and their duties in preventing industrial accidents.

Talks, in Cantonese, will be held on potential hazards such as falling from heights, injury by moving parts of machinery and in welding processes, and necessary precautions to prevent such injuries.

Briefings will be held on legislations on ship building, ship repair, the statutory obligations of employers and employees, and the importance of establishment of safety committees.

About 50 places are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
