CAFE AFICIONADO

Regal Airport Hotel, Tel: 2286 6238

The airport may seem out of the way but the interior design of the Regal Airport Hotel makes for a unique attraction.

A case in point is Cafe Aficionado, an art gallery-restaurant where paintings rotate around the entire dining area every 30 minutes. The restaurant offers a theme lunch buffet that focuses on a different cuisine each day of the week. Japanese on Monday; steaks and ribs on Tuesday; Thai on Wednesday; European on Thursday; Indian on Friday, and international seafood on Saturday and Sunday.

A well-stocked dinner buffet is also available throughout the week. Adults HK$143, children HK$100 (mid-week); adults HK$163, children HK$120 (weekends). The dinner buffet mid-week costs adults HK$250, children HK$150 and on weekends adults HK$270, children HK$170.

CAFE DU PARC

Metropark Hotel, Tel: 2600 1000

For that international flavour at a value-for-money price visit the Cafe du Parc's Franco-Japanese dinner buffet Friday to Sunday and on public holidays between 6.30pm and 9.30pm.

Adults HK$228, children and seniors HK$148. The international semi-buffet dinner is available Monday to Thursday from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. At HK$168, the selection includes starters and a dessert buffet.

CAFE TOO

Island Shangri-La, Tel: 2820 8571

The Asian contemporary minimalist decor of Cafe Too contrasts with the bountiful spread of its daily buffet.

Featuring Western and Asian cuisine, Cafe Too is a showcase for the diverse range of styles and culinary expertise of the Shangri-La kitchen. The lunch and dinner buffet offers excellent value in a casual setting. Lunch costs adults HK$235, children HK$168 (Mondays to Saturdays), adults HK$275 and children HK$178 (Sundays and public holidays). Dinner costs adults HK$308, children HK$198 (Monday to Thursday), adults HK$338, children HK$198 (Friday and weekends).

CENTURY CAFE

Novotel Century, Hong Kong

Why not eat well and work out? Anticipating that some guests may want to burn off a few calories before indulging in its well-stocked buffet, the Novotel Century has come up with an unusual offer: with any lunch or dinner buffet, guests receive a complimentary pass to the gym and pool.

Lunch guests can use the pool between 10am and 3pm, while dinner guests are allowed access between 4pm to 10pm. For an additional HK$188 per person (based on double occupancy) dinner guests can stay at the hotel for an evening during the weekend. Buffet prices are now discounted by 15 per cent. Lunch, adults HK$117; dinner, adults HK$142. Children's price is based on the youngster's height at HK$1 per 2cm.

GRAND CAFE GRISSINI

Grand Hyatt, Tel: 2584 7298

Looking to host a private party? The Grand Hyatt is offering a privately-catered party special for a minimum of 10 persons for HK$380 each. The buffet is catered by the Grand Cafe and held in a private function room.

The Italian restaurant Grissini offers a similar privately-catered buffet for HK$450 per person. The offer is good until the end of June.

L.A. BRASSERIE/ LE RENDEZVOUS

Regal Kowloon Hotel, Tel: 2722 1818

Until May 31, patrons of the Regal can enjoy discounts of up to 50 per cent when visiting selected restaurants.

The offer applies to L.A. Brasserie's seafood set menu, a la carte menu, executive luncheon, dinner buffets and Sunday brunch buffet.

Visitors to Le Rendezvous can enjoy 50 per cent off all snack foods and drinks daily.

L.A. Brasserie dinner buffet: adults HK$134, children HK$74 (mid-week); adults HK$144, children HK$134 (Friday to Sunday and public holiday evenings).

LA SCALA

How many ways can you cook fish? The answer is 18 at the Royal Plaza Hotel's Black King fish dinner buffet. These include sweet and sour Black King fish, sauteed Black King fish with XO sauce, and steamed Black King fish head with black bean sauce.

The buffet is prepared in a new open-air kitchen in the renovated La Scala restaurant. The hotel recently slashed buffet prices 20 per cent.

LE MENU

Suzie Wong may be long gone, but the hotel featured in Richard Mason's famous novel lives on in an unrecognisable up-scale venue in this Gloucester Road location.

Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, between 6pm to 9.30pm, the hotel offers an international buffet that provides excellent value for money. Reservations recommended. Adults HK$168, children HK$128.

THE CAFE

Traditional high tea and Asian high tea is being served in The Cafe on Saturdays and Sundays from 3pm to 6pm.

The traditional set includes scones, tartlets, finger and open-face sandwiches. The Asian high tea set is served with regional Asian fare and a choice of Western and Chinese teas. There is a special offer of HK$200 for two people.

MARRIOTT CAFE

J.W. Marriott

The Cafe's lunch and dinner buffets are a popular attraction. The dinner dishes vary daily, but you can always count on a good selection of Western and Asian choices.

Favourites include steamed garoupa with soya sauce, stir-fried beef with water chestnuts, and baked duck breast.

The Marriott Cafe is also famed for its dessert selection, featuring cakes, chocolate innovations and frozen delights.

Head chef Tony Wong advises guests to take their time when enjoying the seafood selection.

Featuring fresh oysters, crab, shrimp, mussels and selected daily fish (such as sea bass, crawfish, or red snapper), the seafood promotion is included in the cover buffet price. Adults HK$288 and children HK$188 between 6pm and 9.30pm.

THE CAFE

Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel and Towers

The Cafe's 'super-value' lunch and dinner buffet specials offer a wide choice of dishes, but there is a catch: you have to pay careful attention to your calendar as the buffets only appear on limited occasions.

Lunch and tea buffets are served on weekends and public holidays while the dinner buffet is served on Fridays, weekends and public holidays. A 30 per cent discount is available for four or more guests.

As a special offer, every group of four customers ordering set dinners during the week will receive one free seafood dinner buffet coupon for the weekend. Lunch, adults HK$175, children HK$115; dinner, adults HK$275 children HK$175.

THE CAFE

The Park Lane, Hong Kong, Tel: 2839 3311

The hotel, located next to Victoria Park, offers great buffet deals. The daily lunch at The Cafe features traditional kebabs and salad buffet for HKHK$89. Kebabs are made of minced lamb, beef or chicken seasoned with herbs and spices.

The meats are cut into strips and served on pita bread, Turkish flat bread or Indian naan bread and topped with humus sauce.

The Cafe also offers a Japanese dinner buffet until the end of May. This includes fish roe and fueru wakame salad, eggplant miso salad, shirataki and tuna fish salad, kanpyo, hijiki, narutomaki and bell pepper salad.

THE COFFEE SHOP

Until August 31 the hotel is slashing its dinner buffet prices by 20 per cent. The offer includes unlimited draught beer.

Buffet specialities include a USA roast beef wagon, a hot pot station and an assortment of sashimi, sushi and soba. Adults HK$174, children HK$102 (mid-week); adults HK$190, children HK$110 (weekends).

THE GREENERY

The Royal Garden, Tel: 2733 2030

The Royal Garden has designed a balanced-diet buffet with the help of a professional nutritionist. The result is a wonderful gourmet experience that will make your doctor happy.

The baked salmon and spinach roll, topped with salmon roe and spicy carrot juice, is rich in vitamin A, while the strawberry rhubarb soup with champagne is packed with vitamin C.

Seafood includes shrimp, clam, prawn, scallop and sea whelk. All ingredients are chosen and prepared to maintain freshness. Even the oysters are opened in front of guests.

THE HARBOURSIDE

Every Wednesday and Thursday evening, enjoy stunning harbour views with a tempting and abundant selection of imported fresh seafood, sushi and sashimi at The Harbourside restaurant.

SUN'S CAFE

Great Eagle Hotel, 2375 1133

Sun's Cafe is offering a seafood dinner buffet every Thursday, Friday and Saturday until August 31 featuring seafood from around the world. For starters, look to the French bouillabaisse or Chinese winter melon soup with crabmeat and Yunnan ham. Freshly shucked oysters, sushi and a sashimi selection are also available. Adults HK$320, children a 260.



BUFFETS
