Fashion's obsession with all things Asian has extended itself to the fickle world of modelling. Celebrated Japanese strutter Ai Tominaga leads the pack, appearing on covers such as Japanese Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and Nylon. When she's not on the catwalk her favourite off-camera sport is surfing. The 20-year-old, 1.8-metre-tall runway regular has already bagged the Yves Saint Laurent and Vivienne Tam campaigns, and is the face of Gucci's forthcoming fragrance campaign for autumn.
'My style depends on how I'm feeling that day,' says Tominaga. 'Every girl wants to feel sexy, of course. But I rarely wear skirts because I don't sit properly.' So, no skirts, even at parties? 'Actually, I don't really go to parties.' Now that's a turn up for the books in the hedonistic world of modelling.
Make-up: 'Just lipbalm. My favourite is Nivea.'
Coat: Nicole from Japan. 'I bought it because it's fake fur.'
Accessories: 'My bag is Freitag from Corso Como in Milan. The fabric is used to make tents.' Inside is a Dior wallet, Gucci sunglasses (above), comics, mobile phone, MD player and an English-Japanese dictionary ('I take it everywhere').
