Mr Shaw is a partner and managing director of Shaw Kwei & Partners, a private equity fund manager focused on Asia. He has been involved in Asian private equity since 1986, and has organised and managed Asian private equity funds for two United States financial institutions, Security Pacific Bank and Tudor Investment. He has participated in a variety of investment transactions throughout Asia, including Hong Kong and China.

Michelle Guthrie has been appointed executive vice-president for regional distribution and business development at Star Group. Ms Guthrie will report to president and chief operating officer Bruce Churchill. She will oversee the company's distribution businesses in all Asian markets excluding the Indian subcontinent, China, Taiwan and the Middle East. Major territories under her responsibility include Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, South Korea and Indonesia. Ms Guthrie joined the firm in June 2000. Before that, she was director of legal and business affairs at FOXTEL and corporate counsel in London for News International and British Sky Broadcasting. She will be based in Hong Kong for her new role.

Ms Fung will develop new business opportunities and distribution channels and assist in establishing marketing strategies, new product development and market research. She has held various marketing positions at Citibank and Hang Seng Bank. She also served as general manager, consumer business, at PCCW.

Mr Groves oversees the development and delivery of professional services by the retail team in Asia. He focuses on shopping centre and retail assignments throughout Asia. Mr Groves brings with him 17 years of experience in shopping centre leasing management as well as retail development. He has been working in Asia and Europe for the past 10 years, most recently with Sony Development and Loews Cineplex.

Jean-Claude Bergadaa

Mr Bergadaa will replace Guillaume Dry, who will leave by the end of next month. Mr Bergadaa was a member of the BNP Group until 1991 where he held various management positions, most recently as head of merchant banking in New York. He has held senior posts in corporate and investment banking in Credit Agricole Indosuez in Singapore, Stockholm and London.

Based in Bangkok, Mr Wansom joined Star Group in 1997 as general manager in charge of distribution and marketing  in Thailand. He was promoted to vice-president in 2000. His territorial responsibility includes Indochina, the Philippines, Macau, Hong Kong and Israel. Mr Wansom also served as co-general manager and board member of Channel [V] Thailand in 2001 and last year.
