Commuters using the Yau Ma Tei MTR station have found their days brightened by the addition of a new work of art, a mosaic that has been installed as part of the railway's Art in Station Architecture programme.

Entitled My Home, the artwork was originally created by Chu Hung, a Chinese artist, in a blend of acrylic and Chinese ink. It has been reproduced with thousands of mosaic tiles near the station's exit B.

More than 200 square feet in size, it depicts the interior of a Chinese home, complete with furniture, a chessboard, ceramic homeware and birdcages.

My Home is the latest of 10 pieces of art installed at MTR stations since September 2001.

The Art in Station Architecture programme was seen as an innovative way to refurbish parts of MTR stations, as well as to support local artists, MTR spokesman Catherine Sing Kit-tak said.

The murals would be permanent displays, she added.
