A cat saved the life of its owner yesterday by alerting her to a fire that swept through their apartment outside Australia's second biggest city. The pet woke the sleeping woman after a candle left burning caused a blaze in her third-storey flat in the Melbourne suburb of Kew. Fire brigade spokesman Norm Henderson said that 16 firefighters were needed to bring the blaze under control.
