A user's guide to fashion
Active duty
It is the definitive rags-to-riches story. Alf Martin Lopez, son of a Swiss tailor, was living in a squat when his self-taught pattern-cutting, sewing and embroidery skills caught the attention of the chiefs of active-wear labels Solomon, Maharishi and Gotcha. Now, the snowboarding and skateboarding fanatic has issued his first collection, ambitiously named Your Tailor is Rich. Focusing on a small group of perfectly formed sweatshirts, T-shirts and innovatively cut denim, the line features 'a bit of humour, a bit of scissors, a bit of sewing machines, a bit of measuring tape and a lot of love', says Lopez. Let us spray
It might sound like the latest fad faith, but Sprayology is a new spin on Hollywood's oldest religion: looking terrific. With converts including Halle Berry, the Backstreet Boys, Shaquille O'Neal and Christina Aguilera, the health and beauty aid is surprisingly straightforward: simply spritz its mixture of vitamins under your tongue, allow them to be absorbed into the bloodstream, and voila! You have, it is claimed, instant detoxification, metabolic support and a stronger immune system. Try Man Power for a testosterone touch-up, Diet Power for weight loss and Stressless for unsightly worry lines. Available for $230 to $530 each at the Grooming Bar in Lane Crawford, Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui.
Closet case
'I love fashion on other people. I love looking through magazines and seeing what other people are wearing, but it's all such a game when you have stylists dressing celebrities. They're not going into their closets and putting something on, which is what I do. Which is why you can't keep up with the fashion Joneses. Everyone has the newest, best things, and other people are dressing them: it's an impossible image to try to live up to.'
