Employees from United Christian Hospital said farewell to their 'Mother Yung' yesterday as the 47-year-old health-care assistant was buried at Gallant Garden with the highest honours.

Lau Kam-yung, who died on May 27 after caring for a Sars patient, was described as a loving, motherly figure by the hospital's chief executive, Tse Chun-yan, at North Point Funeral Home before the burial.

'She was a caring, optimistic person who always wore a warm smile. Her love can be felt by all of us,' he said.

Dr Tse also said Lau, mother of a daughter and a son, was an affectionate parent and wife at home, adding that all her colleagues would miss Lau's treats, including tea-leaf flavoured eggs and sago dessert.
