Updated at 7.16pm: The Hong Kong Port and Maritime Board would be replaced by two new advisory bodies comprised of private sector and Government officials, a Government spokesman said on Friday. The Government would set up the Hong Kong Maritime Industry Council (MIC) and the Hong Kong Port Development Council (PDC) after taking the results from a recently completed study on ways to consolidate Hong Kong's role as an international maritime centre, said the spokesman. The spokesman said Secretary for Economic Development and Labour Stephen Ip Shu-kwan was appointed chairman of both Councils. Mr Ip is also the chairman of the Hong Kong Logistics Development Council. The MIC would focus on the promotion of Hong Kong as an international maritime centre and the development of the maritime industry while the PDC would advise the Government on the port development strategy and port planning, said the spokesperson.
