Premier Wen Jiabao is expected to visit Hong Kong to mark the sixth anniversary of the handover on July 1, according to reports.
It is understood that Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa will join Mr Wen at a ceremony for an agreement on a closer trade relationship between the mainland and the special administrative region.
The agreement will spell out the framework of the consensus on cross border trade that will benefit the city, according to Hong Kong's Wen Wei Bo newspaper.
Mr Wen was quoted as saying in March that he wanted to visit Hong Kong as soon as possible.
It has been reported that senior officials, including Tang Jiaxuan, the state councillor in charge of Hong Kong affairs, and Liao Hui, the director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, will also accompany Mr Wen on his visit to Hong Kong.
The Ministry of Public Security and the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office will send officials to Hong Kong to make security arrangements before the top leadership arrives.
