A Cambodian casino has claimed it does not have to fork out more than US$2 million in prize money to a group of Hong Kong gamblers because they cheated.
In a High Court writ filed yesterday, Naga Resorts & Casinos Limited is seeking a declaration from the Hong Kong courts that it is not liable to make the payment.
Naga is owned by Malaysian businessman Chen Lip Keong, who is known to have strong ties with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.
The casino has been located on a seven-storey barge moored on the Mekong River in Phnom Penh since 1995.
According to the writ, a junket led by Darwin Liman - also known as Richard Lim - and Kuk Po-shun visited the casino between April 23 and 25 this year and won US$2,095,656.
Stephen Hung Kam-see, Chau Siu-lung, Wong Kin-ming and Lai Kwok-kwong were also named as defendants.
