New World First Ferry employees have agreed to give up their guaranteed annual bonus in favour of a discretionary scheme, even as their colleagues at sister company New World First Bus continue to hold out against the plan.
First Ferry officials said yesterday that all 700-plus employees had signed and returned a letter signifying their acceptance of the scheme to scrap the guaranteed one-month bonus.
Instead, bonuses will now be based on a discretionary scheme that takes into account New World First Ferry's profitability and each employee's performance.
While the new scheme is effective immediately, the guaranteed bonus will be prorated in the current year to June 30, which means employees will still receive a half-month's bonus at the end of this year.
Employees met last week to discuss the scheme after their colleagues at New World First Bus, which is also owned by NWF Holdings, rejected the plan.
The bus drivers have asked the Labour Department to intervene in their dispute and have met company management twice to discuss other proposals.
The bus drivers plan to meet management again on Tuesday.
