It had been directed to ensure that subscribers could receive both types of signal
Cable Television has received a temporary respite from an order by the Telecommunications Authority to ensure that subscribers are also able to receive satellite services after installation.
Barrister Johnny Mok, for Cable TV, yesterday told the Court of First Instance that the move by the authority was a 'commercial decision'.
Cable TV was seeking an interim injunction suspending the authority's direction, which was contained in a letter handed down on May 7.
The authority said Cable TV had breached the Renewed Subscription Television Broadcasting Licence under the Television Ordinance, after receiving three individual complaints that satellite TV signals were lost after the installation of cable services.
Cable TV had been required to submit a plan to the authority for approval within 14 days on how it would take remedial action to restore the reception of satellite master antenna television services among all affected subscribers in Hong Kong. It was directed to ensure that subscribers could receive both services concurrently without any drop in their quality.
The authority has extended the deadline for the plan's submission to today.
