THE Government has decided to shelve the construction of a sewerage plant for Kowloon East pending results from the scheme to clean Victoria Harbour next year, according to a Kwun Tong District Board member Steven Hung Chung-fun.
He said the Government would decide whether to resume the project after evaluating results of the phased programme of declaring Victoria Harbour a water control zone in 1995.
The sewerage plant, near Laguna City, was scheduled to be completed by 1997 after the Chief Secretary, Sir David Ford, promised $14 billion to improve water quality in 1989, said Mr Hung.
A spokesman for Laguna City Estates Owners Committee said they had complained to the Town Planning Board about the construction of the sewerage plant.
