The woman, surnamed Ng, had earlier told police that she found her son unconscious after returning home from work. The baby was certified dead at the scene by ambulancemen. An initial examination revealed there were bruises on his body.

Police said a post-mortem examination last night indicated that he died of head and throat injuries. The woman was still in custody early today and assisting the police investigation.

The woman earlier told police she had had an argument with her boyfriend after returning home from work and he left the flat at 7pm.

She said about an hour later she went to feed the baby and noticed something was wrong.
