More than 4,000 job-seekers applied for 500 vacancies yesterday at a recruitment fair held by a Hong Kong property giant. Cheung Kong (Holdings) Limited and eight of its subsidiaries offered jobs ranging from car park attendants, telemarketers, to interior architects at the Metropolis Mall, Hunghom. Salaries ranged from $5,000 to $50,000. More than 2,000 attended in person while another 2,000-plus registered online for an interview. Some began queuing as early as 10pm the night before. Cheung Kong (Holdings) executive director, Justin Chiu Kwok-hung, said the quality of the applicants was high. 'Since a lot of fresh graduates are entering the labour market, we reserve about 70 posts for applicants without any experience and we may consider increasing the number of these posts,' Mr Chiu said. Among the lucky ones was Wong Hoi-pan, 24, a Polytechnic University graduate, who was offered work as a property assistant after an interview. 'I have been waiting for over two hours and I am so glad that I have finally got a job. I have applied for about 10 jobs since my final examinations in May,' he said.
