Product: Archos Video AV300 Price: US$569.95 for the AV320; US$629.95 for the AV340 Pros: Records multiple formats, huge storage capacity Cons: Not yet available in Hong Kong
Like a lawsuit waiting to happen, handheld gadget maker Archos has announced a portable video recorder and player that is sure to worry movie studios.
The new Video AV300 series, which is not yet available in Hong Kong, will record any digital or analogue video signal on to its internal hard disk.
The device has a 3.8-inch colour display and comes in two sizes - the AV320, which has a 20-gigabyte hard drive, and the AV340, with a 40GB drive.
Archos says this will be enough to give you up to 80 hours of MPEG-4 video, 400,000 digital photos, 2,000 hours of MP3 music or 4,000 hours of voice recordings via the built-in microphone. You can also use it to store data via a USB 2.0 port.
It is a great idea - a full home-entertainment system that will slip into a carry-on bag when you have a long flight or a dull commute.
