Two men, one a former policeman, were jailed for nine years yesterday for unlawfully possessing a pistol and two homemade bombs.
Deputy Judge Peter Longley told ex-constable Kwai Cheong-ming, 38, and decorator Lo Chun-fai, 37, that the offences were extremely serious.
The judge said Kwai had been jailed for 14 years in 1988 for taking part in an armed robbery at a jewellery shop in Nathan Road, Mongkok. He had been released from prison in 1997.
Kwai had pleaded guilty to the two charges. Lo was found guilty at trial. The judge said: 'You are both aware the gun and explosives would be used in the commission of very serious crime.'
He said the weapons had posed a danger to anyone in the vicinity of flats in Shanghai Street, Mongkok, where the court heard they had been stored.
The defendants were arrested in Shanghai Street in March last year. Lo was holding a bag containing the weapons.
