OFFICERS from the People's Liberation Army are expected to examine military sites in Hong Kong next month preparing for the territory's return to China, sources said yesterday. The future of the military sites will also be discussed at a meeting next Wednesday of the defence and security sub-group of the Joint Liaison Group (JLG). The group is trying to agree which areas should be handed to the Chinese military and which may bedeveloped commercially. Last month, the Commander British Forces, Major-General John Foley, said the Prince of Wales Building, which houses his headquarters, would be handed over to the Chinese as a military site. The Government might wait until the completion of the Central and Wan Chai reclamation including the site for the Prince of Wales Building before putting them on sale. The sub-group meeting will prepare for the next plenary session of the JLG to be held in Beijing in mid-September.
