Q Does the public complain about the government too much?
A historic 500,000 people demonstrated on July 1. It was proof that the public cannot tolerate poor governance indefinitely. After Hong Kong's return to China, our good fortunes have disappeared. The economy declined, the jobless rate increased and policies became confused. People have much to complain about to our government.
As we look at our government's poor performance, all should agree their complaints are not excessive. People are concerned about maintaining their living standards. Not all the 500,000 people demonstrated because of opposition for Article 23 - many were simply disappointed with our government. This government cannot give the people what they want, and the people have every right to complain.
If people are still willing to complain, it shows they still have hope. They want things to be corrected, and for wrongs to be righted. They love Hong Kong. But if their disillusionment was total, then perhaps instead of complaining they would resort to other, non-rational means.
To our government: please listen to us. Correct your mistakes. We still have hope for the future.
