Who? Dressing Madonna is a sure sign your clothes have attitude, and designer twins Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared2 have done just that. Having created the pop star's cowboy get-ups for her Drowned World tour, the Canadian brothers have been building a loyal fan base among Hollywood's top tiers such as Lenny Kravitz, Ricky Martin and Justin Timberlake. DSquared2's cool range of clubwear shirts and motorbike jackets are favoured by men who like clothes with flair, and its newly launched womenswear range is perfect for those who want a touch of jetset diva.
How did it start? The Canadian twins first showed their menswear collection in Milan in 1994 and their clever mixture of American grunge and Italian sex appeal earned them praise from those who appreciate the unconventional. The duo presented their long-awaited womenswear collection this year and the rock star-inspired pieces will be on the racks this autumn/winter.
What do the clothes look like? Think Roberto Cavalli meets Marc Jacobs. Overtly provocative yet effortlessly dishevelled, the creations are inspired by the likes of truck drivers, military men, bikers and cowboys. The spring/summer 2002 menswear range features a citrus splash of muscle tank tops and hip-hugging denims, and winter is all about rocker chic with multiple-zipped denim jackets and combat trousers with D-ring, utilitarian details.
Dsquared2's womenswear launch in February in Milan oozed sex appeal as models strutted out of an aircraft set in come-hither stilettos, truck-driver caps and ultra minis. Snug, fitted, cotton tees were paired with cropped combat pants while miniskirts were worn under oversized duffle jackets or fur coats. The collection screams, 'I'm a VIP and I'm definitely
on the list!' and the clothes and their wearers are guaranteed to attract wolf-whistles.
